Nail Polish Haul

Just thought I'd share my recent nail polish purchases. Half look like summer colors- and the other half look like fall colors.

I just purchased the two Orly nail polishes from Sally Beauty Supply the other day. Flirty reminds me of Fancy Fuchsia but with a metallic silver dust in it & Frolic was just too much of a fun summery purple to pass up. Both are a part of Orly's Happy Go Lucky collection. The gold crackle my sister happened to pick up for me because she thought I'd like it! I do like it, but not exactly over the color shown below.

The next two colors are from the China Glaze Metro collection. Being a fall 2011 collection- the colors are exactly that, very fall-esque. I couldn't put down Westside Warrior once I saw it because it is such a unique olive green. The other color to catch my eye was City Siren. After swatching it on my finger I knew it was love at first sight. You could pull this color off with any outfit. The rest of the colors in the collection didn't quite do it for me. At the same time its 90 degrees outside and I feel like I can't wear anything but bright colors, so who knows! Below are the swatches...

Ombré Nails

Ever since I saw Lisa Eldridge tweet this photo I had to somehow recreate it. Here's my attempt:






(starting with my pinky- China Glaze High Hopes, Revlon Tropical Temptation, Essie Tart Deco, Essie Van D'go, Revlon *white not sure of the exact name!)

Yeah, I know mine don't look as good as hers but I'm definitely loving the look. She tweeted that Essie's Tart Deco was in her middle finger so of course I had to do the same thing! I'm not sure if I should have put white on my thumb nail- but hey, it was my first time! With how much I like the look I'm sure there will be more to come. Next I'm definitely thinking purples!

Sally Hansen Salon Effects

So my cheap a$$ wouldn't try them until I saw them on sale. FINALLY my local grocery store (wegmans) marked them down to $5.99 (normally $8.99) and I picked out the most sparkly set to try out on my nails. The set I chose was called Frock Star and it looked like this:



Putting them on was...interesting- but somehow I made it out alive. I was kind of disappointed with how some of the edges turned out, but I blamed it on the fact that it was the chunky glitter that didn't file well.

About 3 hours after putting them on I knew they were doomed. The edges of the glitter started lifting and if I would touch my hair it would get caught under the glitter. I eventually started peeling them off my nails, but then decided to use the nail polish remover (as directed) to get the job done. Can you say nightmare?!!?!? I thought the whole benefit of getting the glitter set was that I wouldn't have to deal with the nightmare that is removing glitter from your nails. This is 10x worse. I literally ran one layer of polish remover over each nail and proceeded to scratch the rest of the glitter sticker off.

I'm pretty sure I won't be repurchasing these. I would definitely rather spend the $6 buying a bottle of nail polish that I can use over and over. Although maybe some of the other designs wouldn't be such a pain... some of them are pretty cute...

NOTD: China Glaze Cracked Concrete & Orly Fancy Fuchsia

I popped into Sally's to see if they got in the China Glaze crackle polishes and voila, they were there! I was a little more excited for this collection than I should have been. Once I saw the white- I instantly thought white out- and the teal and purple didn't wow me, so I settled on grey. Since I only had one polish in my hand you know I HAD to look for something else. I came across Orly's new Precious collection and ended picking up Fancy Fuchsia because it looked like no other pink I own.



Overall I am SO glad that I bought both of these polishes. The second I put on Fancy Fuchsia I feel in love. It makes me think of summer time and it would look amazing with a tan. I'm also liking cracked concrete even more than my OPI black crackle. It's not as in your face but still looks unique.

OPI & Katy Perry

If you follow me on Twitter, you probably saw my tweet on Sunday about sitting outside of my Ulta waiting for it to open like a crazy woman so I could run in and grab the nail polishes in this collection! And I did. At 10:55 AM I got out of my car and stood in somewhat of a line in the freeeezing cold for nail polish.
And boy was it worth it!! I was scared at first though because this woman behind me ran in front of me and started grabbing like 5 of the shatter nail polishes. Luckily she didn't take them all so I was able to pick up these beauties...

I passed on Last Friday Night because it seemed like you would need a lot of layers to get a good pay off and The One That Got Away because it seemed too similar to other colors out there. Teenage Dream is the perfect girly glitter color. It just makes me happy seeing it on my nails!

I'm also really excited for Black Shatter. I can't wait to use it to spice up colors in my nail polish collection. I picked up Not Like The Movies because it looks like such a unique color. On my nails now is Teenage Dream & Black Shatter.

Overall, I was quite please with this collection! Did you pick up any of the Katy Perry OPI polishes?!

OPI Katy Perry Collection

I have been dying for this collection to come out ever since I saw the ad in Cosmo magazine. I kept calling the beauty supplies and Ulta since the collection was supposed to be released the beginning of January but the stores either a) never heard of it or b) didn't know when they were getting them in. FINALLY Ulta tweeted that the collection would be in stores on January 23rd!

There are five different colors (from left to right)- Last Friday Night, Not Like The Movies, The One That Got Away, Teenage Dream & the ever so exciting Shatter Black Top Coat .
I'm pretty sure I want them all. I may be able to pass on Last Friday Night, but I'm excited to see if Not Like The Movies is similar to the infamous Chanel Black Pearl.

Do you think you'll be picking up any of the Katy Perry nail polishes?!

Polishes

I recently picked up a few nail polishes and I thought I'd share them with you all! First up is Sephora's Myrtille. I LOVE the color, but the formula is quite thick and semi hard to work with. Also, the polish started chipping the 3rd day with even with a base AND top coat! Next is the almighty Chanel Jade look a like, Milani's Dress Maker. Personally, I don't think the color is THAT great. It's quite subtle and soft, but I guess that's just not my style! My favorite of the bunch is Essie's Sew Psyched. It is the PERFECT military green for fall nails. It photographs darker than it actually is, but trust me, its gorgeous!

OPI Coronation

I just picked up OPI's Coronation, part of OPI's Designer Series nail polish and let me tell you, it is gorgeous! It is the perfect summer color for glowing finger nails! When the sun hits your fingernails it creates this rainbow(ish) bright glow that just puts a smile on my face! The nail polishes that are part of the designer series are a bit more expensive than normal OPI polishes, but they are totally worth the extra $$! Check it out!

And on my nails....


I wore it alone but I could see it also working on top of a color. It almost reminds me of a toned down version of China Glazes OMG. Overall, if you can find it at a reasonable price (I paid $6.25 at the beauty supply store) I would definitely try it out!

Sally Hansen Nail Polish- Hidden Treasure

I first heard about this nail polish on twitter. There was a buzz going around that it was impossible to find, so of course I HAD to go out and "find" it. Long story short, after driving to 5 different drug stores and calling 12 more, no one had it, but the lovely Valerie from Material Instinct grabbed an extra and sent it to me! I am SO glad that she did because no one should be without this color! It's an amazing glittery/holographic finish that looks so unique over ANY nail polish. It's great because it jazz's up any old nail polish that you already own! Ok, enough yapping, here it is!

And here it is over Essie's Lapis of Luxury...


Gorgeous right?!?! I recommend that everyone cross their fingers and head to their nearest drugstore/walmart/whatever! This polish is too good to pass up!

China Glaze- Up and Away (ish)!

So as soon as I saw swatches of four leaf clover from the Up and Away collection by China Glaze I knew I had to have it! I know I'm kind of late on this collection, but I had to wait until Sally Beauty Supply had the collection in stock so I could get them at $3.25 each, instead of paying the $6.25 that Ulta charges! My Sallys said they wouldn't be getting the collection in until March, so when I went in for a quick browse, I was SHOCKED when I saw the Up and Away collection! I knew I had to get four leaf clover and lemon fizz, but then I laid my eyes on.... High Hopes. It was just too pretty of a color to leave sitting there on display!
I've also been craving a aqua(ish) blue ever since the OPI Hong Kong collection came out, so I ended up picking up Shower Together as well. It similar to OPI's Suzi Says Feng Shui, but not exact. I still love it!


On my pinky I have Lilacism (not really a fan) , then Shower Together, Yellow Fizz, High Hopes & Four Leaf Clover. Four Leaf Clover doesn't photograph well at all! It is way more of a green than a teal and I LOVE it!
Overall I was a big fan of this collection! Re-fresh mint is also a great looking color and even though I already have Essie's Mint Candy Apple, I may still need to pick it up! What did you think of this collection?!

Nail Polish

I have been on a nail polish kick lately! It all started out when I realized I could get China Glaze at Sally's Beauty Supply with a pro card for $2.99! I am also able to get OPI & Essie from a different beauty supply store for $4.00 & $4.25 so I can't pass up that!! Although that sounds cheap, I have come to realize that Ulta sometimes runs sales on polishes that turn out to be cheaper than that!
Anyways, I have been on the hunt for a coral color after I have seen on a few blogs that it will be big for spring. I have also been looking for a soft grey color. Leave it to Essie to have everything I was looking for! I ended up picking up Tart Deco & Chinchilly! After looking at swatches online, I have a feeling I will love both these polishes!


I also got a peek at OPI's Alice In Wonderland collection. Not that impressed. My sister picked up the two glitter colors, Mad as a Hatter & Absolutely Alice. The other two colors just seemed like classic reds. Blah, I would have expected crazier colors!
